So there are still sometimes when you want to play RealPlayer files on your computer. I for one came across one such time today as I downloaded a older video lecture on “Introduction to the theory of computation”.
The download reachable on real.com however only contains links to 32-bit versions of the realplayer. And 32-bit applications will not install directly under 64-bit systems. Here’s a quick solution.
As I’ve mentioned in another post you can download the ia32-lib packet to run 32-bit applications on a 64-bit system. For the realplayer you also need to install the lsb packet. So run this command firstly:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs lsb
After you have successfully downloaded and installed these packages you download the .deb packet from http://www.real.com/realplayer/download. Then open the directory you downloaded the realplayer package in the terminal and run:
sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i RealPlayer11GOLD.deb
That should do the trick and your realplayer installation should work without any errors.comments powered by Disqus
